Make Lively

Servicing Knitting Machines

Service Policies

Last updated: May 2026

Make Lively is a one-person knitting machine repair shop serving San Diego. These are the policies that apply to all repair work โ€” the same terms you'll agree to when you submit a service request through the service portal.

Machines I Service

Brother, Toyota, Silver Reed, and their rebrands (Knit King, Singer, Studio). I service these machines only when they are out of warranty and the manufacturer no longer services them.

Wait Times & Appointments

Make Lively is very busy with appointments most months of the year, wait time to get your machine into the shop varies. Submit a service request through the portal โ€” I'll contact you to schedule a drop-off appointment as soon as I have an opening.

Pricing

Once I see the machine I can provide a clearer estimate. Extra costs may apply for damage from rodents, bugs, cats, husbands, dampness, direct sunlight, or hard-to-find parts. New issues are sometimes discovered once cleaning has started.

Drop-Off & Pickup

Drop-off is by appointment only at one of two San Diego locations (Escondido or Clairemont). Machines must be picked up within 7 days of completion notification unless other written arrangements are made.

Storage Fees

Early Drop-Off Storage Fee

Machines dropped off prior to a scheduled service appointment will incur a storage fee of $25 per machine per month, prorated from the drop-off date to the service date. This fee is separate from any service charges and will be included on your invoice.

Post-Service Storage Fee

Machines not picked up within 30 days of completion notice will incur a storage fee of $25 per machine per month. After 60 days with no response to reasonable contact attempts, machines may be considered abandoned.

If a machine is determined to be abandoned, Make Lively reserves the right to sell the equipment to cover outstanding service and storage charges.

Limited Warranty

Work performed is warranted for 30 days from completion. This covers the specific repairs made, not pre-existing conditions or new issues. Defect claims must be made in writing within 30 days. Remedy is at Make Lively's option: replacement of any defective parts or workmanship, or refund of amounts paid for the affected service and parts. All warranty claims are subject to inspection and approval.

Previous Repair Attempts

If a machine has been partially disassembled or previously repaired by someone other than a service professional, additional labor may be required, and a full repair may not be possible. I'll let you know if this applies once I see the machine.

Payment

Payment is due upon completion of service, before the machine is returned. Accepted forms of payment: credit/debit card, PayPal, Venmo, Zelle, cash, or check.

Authorization & Liability

By submitting a service request, you authorize Susan Klug (Make Lively) to transport, service, and repair your knitting machine, and you release Make Lively from liability for normal risks associated with machine repair.
